Driver Jobs

If you have a valid driver's license and a good record, driver jobs may give you the hours, pay, and flexibility you need.

Truck Driver Jobs - Truck driving can be a great career, but it isn't for everyone. Long hours on the road, weeks and perhaps months away from home, sleeping in the cab at rest stops - in this sense, truck driving jobs are more of a lifestyle. But if sitting behind a desk from 9 to 5 makes you want to cry and your family is willing to adapt to the demands, then truck driving can bring in some good money.

To get truck driver jobs, you need to earn a commercial driver's license (CDL) from an accredited program and acquire training for the type of truck you want to drive. Larger trucks require more training than smaller ones, and trucks that carry hazardous materials require ongoing extra education.

Delivery Driver Jobs - Delivery drivers do just that - deliver things. Most delivery drivers use their own vehicle or a company vehicle to deliver pizza, Chinese take-out, postal mail and packages, flowers, and so on. To obtain a delivery driver job you need a clean driving record, car insurance, a good sense of direction, the ability to read a map, and urgency (within speed limits, of course). As for all driver jobs, you will need to pass a drug test.

Taxi Driver Jobs - Large metropolitan cities need taxi drivers to transport people from place to place, where passengers will often "flag down" a ride. Taxi drivers also find passengers by prearranging pick-ups and driving through high-traffic areas like airports, downtown business hot spots, and clubbing districts where people have been drinking and cannot drive. Taxi drivers have a preset fare based on miles traveled, and they often receive tips from passengers.

Chauffeur Driver Jobs - Chauffeurs operate in much the same way as taxi drivers, except that all of the passengers have prearranged pickups. Chauffeur driver jobs include limousines, vans, and private cars for limousine companies, private businesses, government agencies, and wealthy individuals. Chauffeurs are responsible for the basic maintenance of their vehicle, and for alerting the parent company or mechanic when something is wrong. Chauffeurs provide more customer service for passengers than do taxi drivers - they often open doors, hold umbrellas, and help with packages and luggage.
